September is here and with it comes the return of a fall favourite, Festbier.
Festbier is another term for Oktoberfestbier, the latter being reserved exclusively for breweries within Munich’s city limits (think Champagne vs sparkling wine). It gained its reference through its ties to the biggest beer festival in the world, Oktoberfest, which dates back to 1810. Back in the day, Märzen was the liquid of choice but, over time, festival goers expressed demand for a beer that was lighter in body and more sessionable while still reasonably malty, which lead to Festbier becoming the official modern day style.
Brewed with German malts and hops. Our 2.0 version pours a brilliant clear rust with a thin beige head. It brings forward aromas of caramel, bread crust and slightly spicy noble hop. On the palate you’ll taste toasted grains with a smooth caramel sweetness and restrained hop bitterness. It’s medium bodied with pleasant carbonation and clean finish. It pairs well with German fare and these crisper fall evenings. Prost!
